The Hawaiian Ironman Race is a Fall Sports Favorite

The fall has always been a time of exciting fall sports. The baseball season is coming to completion with the World Series and football is taking the field. However, I tend to favor minor sports action of television especially the Hawaiian Ironman race in October. It has always been difficult to watch the race on regular TV. Often it could be months away before the race is shown in a short 2-hour slot. Fortunately, Direct Star TV brings the action on the day of the race often with full coverage. The race day varies each year depending on the full moon. It is always the Sunday closest to the full moon providing additional light for nighttime finishers.

Mark Allen was once a favorite competitor since he won the race a total of six times. Imagine a race starting with a 2.4-mile ocean swim, 112-mile bike and ending with a full 26-mile marathon. The competitors must be in tremendous shape to do all of this in one day. Even the late night finishers have some special story to tell about how they prepared for the race. Sarah Reinertsen was one particularly special competitor who competed with one prosthetic leg.

The Ironman race season goes through the fall ending with the race in Hawaii. It is an exciting race showing true courage and determination.
